Publication Alert: Dr. Gaspay publishes a new paper on modernization of e-jeepneys in the Philippines

Dr. Sandy Mae Gaspay recently published a paper entitled “Driving change: Lessons on electrification within the modernization of jeepneys in the Philippines” in the Research in Transportation Economics journal.

The study, co-authored with collaborators from the UP National Center for Transportation Studies, Science Engineering and Management Research Institute, University of Asia and the Pacific, School of Engineering and Sciences, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Querétaro, Mexico and UP School of Economics, documents good examples of modernized e-jeepney operators in the Philippines and highlights their ongoing challenges as we transition towards clean and modernized transport.

The paper underscores the crucial role of national and local government support, innovative financing, and cooperative partnerships in making transport modernization work.

Their project was funded by the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities, E-jeepney Reboot Project. The authors acknowledge the operators and resource persons who generously shared their time and data for this study.

Dr. Sandy Mae Gaspay is an Associate Professor of UP ICE Transportation Engineering Group and Head of the Traffic Engineering and Management Group of UP NCTS. She also serves as the Associate Dean for Alumni and Institutional Linkages of the UPD College of Engineering.
