Publication Alert: Members of WRCEG publish a new paper on water footprint accounting

How much water does a city or a campus really use?

A new paper by Dr. Gil Cruz, Asst. Prof. Franz Santos and research student Czarina Maranan from the UP ICE Water Resources and Coastal Engineering Group applies Water Footprint Accounting (WFA) to the UP Diliman campus to map how water is consumed, stored, and polluted across buildings, green spaces, and stormwater systems.

The findings of their study highlight key water “hotspots” and show how WFA can be used as a decision-support tool for more sustainable and resilient urban water management.

Their paper, titled “Quantifying blue, green, and gray water footprints in a mixed land use urban catchment for sustainable urban water management”, was recently published in the Frontiers in Water journal under the research topic: Integrating Science and Policy for Water-Sensitive Urban Planning in Climate-Impacted Cities.
