The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. (PICE) successfully held its 2023 PICE Midyear National Convention and Technical Conference on 9-10 June 2023 at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City and via hybrid meeting application. With the theme “Innovations in Interdisciplinary Approaches to Civil Engineering Challenges”, the convention gathered 5000+ onsite and 9,000+ online participants. Faculty members and alumni from UP ICE actively participated in the event as speakers, moderators, paper co-authors, and attendees.
The convention commenced with an opening ceremony and plenary session which included the conferment of PICE Fellows and awarding of Certificate of Specialization in the Seven (7) Specialty Divisions of PICE. Among those recognized are Dr. Mark Albert Zarco, as a PICE Fellow, and Asst. Prof. Ma. Brida Lea Diola, as a new PICE specialist under Environmental and Energy Engineering division. Dr. Zarco and Asst. Prof. Diola currently serve as group heads of UP ICE Geotechnical Engineering Group (GEG) and Environmental and Energy Engineering Group (EEEG), respectively.
