UP ICE participates in Stakeholder’s Consultation Meeting for EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies Programme

UP ICE, represented by Asst. Prof. Ma. Doreen Candelaria, head of our Construction Engineering and Management Group, participated in the UN Women and UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Stakeholder’s Consultation Meeting for EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies Programme held on October 17, 2023 at the Marco Polo Ortigas Manila.

From 2018 to 2022, UN Women and the UNEP has been jointly implementing the EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies Programme, which aims to strengthen gender equality and human rights in climate change and disaster risk actions in the Asia and the Pacific region. This year, the EmPower Programme will be expanding to the Philippines through the support of the Government of New Zealand. To ensure that the country’s existing context and ongoing work on climate change and disaster risk reduction are considered, UN Women and UNEP have organized consultations with civil society organizations working on gender, climate change and disaster risk reduction.

Asst. Prof. Candelaria shared the current and future initiatives of UP ICE and the College of Engineering on the topic during the roundtable discussion. Through this CSO Consultation, the organizations hope to identify possible areas of collaboration and program expansion for future resource mobilization.
