UP ICE students win in the 2024 Circular Enterprise Programme Innovation Competition

A team of BS Civil Engineering students from the UP Institute of Civil Engineering (UP ICE) is among the three winners of the 2024 Circular Enterprise Programme Innovation Competition.

Competing against teams from universities from the Philippines, Vietnam, India, and Indonesia, “Team Greencircle,” composed of Angela Anne Balce, Charmaine Ann Landicho, Liza Mae Irish Lucina, and Janna Naypes, presented an innovative pitch aimed at reducing nighttime crime and accidents on campus. Their solution involves the use of kinetic-to-electrical pavement tiles to power low-level street lamps.

The Circular Enterprise Programme is a competition hosted by Circular Cities Asia that aims to foster an innovation movement to redesign linear economic models and inspire young innovators to develop sustainable, circular solutions that address waste issues in their communities. This initiative helps accelerate the transition to a circular economy. This year’s competition theme was “How can we use circular economy innovation to increase the health and enjoyment of public spaces?”.

Team Greencircle was mentored by ICE faculty members Dr. Gil Cruz Jr. and Asst. Prof. Franz Santos. The team will receive seed funding to kick-start their idea and will participate in a three-month incubation programme.

Congratulations to the team! We are very proud of you!
